HBA's Emergency Relief Effort for Central Greece Flood Victims
In September 2023, devastating floods swept through central Greece, leaving behind unimaginable destruction — to homes, infrastructure, livelihoods, and entire communities. Moved by the scale of this tragedy, the Hellenic Bankers Association UK took immediate action to support those affected.
In place of our traditional early autumn networking event, the HBA UK Executive Committee unanimously decided to donate the event’s budget (€2500) directly towards the flood relief efforts. These funds were directed to the Holy Metropolis of Larissa and Tyrnavos, which has been working tirelessly to assist the victims and rebuild hope on the ground.
In the spirit of transparency and solidarity, we share with you the official letter of heartfelt gratitude from His Eminence Ieronymos of Larissa and Tyrnavos, whose words have deeply touched our community.
We also launched a wider appeal, inviting our members, partners, and the public to contribute to this cause. The response has been humbling, reaffirming the strength and unity of the Greek and Cyptiot diaspora.
Though our Annual Christmas Gala will proceed as planned this December 2023, this initiative serves as a reminder that our mission goes beyond celebration — it is also about connection, compassion, and commitment to our roots.
We thank everyone who has supported this initiative so far.
Together, we can continue to make a difference.
